Sonora is one of the most popular dive destinations in Mexico; in addition to excellent visibility, the state offers sheltered coves, underwater cliffs and caves, kelp forests, and a vibrant variety of marine life.
Grab a map of the state and you will see that there are many diving opportunities in Sonora like there is not in other place. Many of the best dive sites are within a few short hours drive from the border with the United States.
The crystal clear waters are incredibly calm and with a visibility up to 100 feet are home for more than three thousand different sea species, many of these organisms do not exist in any other place in the world and that's the main reason why diving is a passion for many of the visitors who come to Sonora.
It makes no difference if you are a novice or a dive master, our underwater playground offers something for everyone.
In San Carlos the waters provide a showcase for more than 800 species of marine life. Also you can find two artificial reefs, a sunken ferry and several smaller wrecks that makes of Sonora Bay area an ideal dive destination.
More and more divers are talking about Sonora Sea, which is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the top diving spots in Mexico. Experts agree.
The waters of the Gulf of California are a pleasant climate where numerous species found make it an ideal spot for snorkeling.
The best places for snorkeling are San Jorge Island in Rocky Point, Punta Sargento, Patos Island and Tiburon Island near Kino Bay and San Pedro Nolasco Island.
