Sonora is a great place to take advantage of many of natural pleasures; thanks to a privileged geographical situation, surrounded by sea, where you can enjoy being part of many different tourist activities, such as scuba diving, ecological tourism, nautical tourism and fishing, either in sea or in dams.

The fishing sector is one of the main activities inside the State, making it one of the top sport fishing destinations in Mexico; as a sport, the fishing depends on three main ports, being the most important as tourist destinations: Kino Bay, San Carlos and Rocky Point; all of them ready to welcome the visitor and to offer all the great resources that can be found in their magnificent waters.

The variety of species you can fish in Sonora are: garropa, sierra, tendril, dolphin, snapper, yellowtail, sailfish, tuna, pargo, marlin, baya, cochito, giant squid, gilding and skijack.

San Carlos is better known as “the jewel of the Sea of Cortes” and without a doubt is the main destiny in the State for fishing. Its calm and tempered waters, a wonderful climate and a modern infrastructure are definitely all you need to enjoy a relaxing time while practicing your favorite sport. 700 boat spaces distributed in two marinas, stores specialized in renting and sale of fishing equipment, and the main thing, more than 800 varieties of marine species that puts it in second place on a  world-wide level, make this destination a place with great potential for this exciting sport.

Rocky Point offers 100 kilometers of propitious beaches covered with fine sand and calm waters. Rocky Point has a huge potential for the development of sport fishing, thanks to its location on one of the world’s greatest gulfs, full of  a great biodiversity of marine species.

An ideal place for fishing is the Saint George Island, next to the rocky archipelagoes located just outside the bay of the same name. There you can catch attractive species like cochito, lenguado, cabrilla, dolphin and one of enormous dimensions called “la pescada”, which can weight around 450 kilograms.

There are marine services offered, with 14 boat spaces and other services that will fill your needs.

Kino Bay has many facilities for the avid fisherman, with white sand beaches, calm waters and a full variety of species year round.
