Heading road from Hermosillo, you will drive into the highest place of the state where a heavenly road will take you to the beautiful town of Yecora.
During the 280 kilometers from Hermosillo to Yecora you will be among mountains with different landscapes that go from flat zones to curvy or mountain road; in addition, and thanks to its climate this route is the ideal destination for hunters that can practice their favorite sport capturing unique species only found in Sonora.
La Colorada Is the first settlement of the route and is found 45km far from Hermosillo in the federal highway toward Chihuahua. It is an old mineral that achieved to become the most important of the state, thanks to the great production they got back in time. Recently a strong mining consortium has been installed and has injected new life to the place.
San Jose de Pima This little town is found only 27km away from La Colorada in the margins of the Matape river. Its waters surrounded by shadow and sandy edges are an excellent place to rest and to have some relaxing recreation.
Tecoripa Its name derives from Pima dialect and means “stone fence”. The main attraction for visitors and locals are the spring waters located at a short distance of this town.
San Javier With a panoramic view to the southwest and the west of the state of Sonora, its colonial architecture and the opportunity to go on any of the many country trips available, like the ones in Cerro Verde, Cerro Colorado and Cerro de la Aguja; makes this place a must to visit.
Tonichi It is located on the left bank of the Yaqui river, it also has spring waters where visitors can rest and enjoy the benefits of this special water.
Onavas The architectural and carved monument of the San Ignacio de Loyola mission stand out on this place. Several resting areas are available along the Yaqui River shore for the enjoyment of local people and visitors to the community, located on the valley bearing the same name.
Tepoca It offers a beautiful panoramic view of the “Tepoca Port”, just few kilometers on the road to Yecora. Its streams also offer natural springs where you can go dipping. Exploring the stream offers surprises, such as natural water springs flowing down from the adjacent walls of the Canyon.
Mesa del Campanero The detour to reach this reserve is 18miles far from Yecora and you will need to climb 16 miles off road. This location has a pine and oak vegetation and countless of magnificent views. As a result of its altitude over sea level and for its even topography, this region can be considered as the roof of Sonora. In addition, its weather during the summer is quite pleasant, with squalls and fogs. The Mesa del Campanero is an ideal place to enjoy those extreme months of the Sonora Valley. The opportunity to do different activities and sports such as camping, exploring, hiking, climbing and hunting makes of Mesa del Campanero an excellent place to visit.
Yecora After a 15-kilometers scenic drive from Mesa del Campanero, surrounded by oak trees, pines, cypress and a typical alpine landscape, you start descending toward the Yecora valley. The word Yecora is derived from “Cahitas” native language meaning “Very Big Corral”, standing for to the fact that this valley is surrounded by mountains.
